We serve the forgotten souls who have been given up on.

We are a Pekingese Rescue and Sanctuary, specializing in protecting those who have been left behind due to age, disability and/or behavior.

Alysia

I am a Peking-ista. My name is Alysia, pronounced ah-lee-sha (thank my mother for the spelling!). I am no foodie, travel guru or fashion plate, but Pekingese have my heart and soul. They are the center of my life’s purpose. It all started with a little Pekingese mix named Stetson. My stepfather, who I adored, gave him to me when I was a senior in high school. Stetson was by my side through college, through a tumultuous marriage and chapters of my career. He was the most reliable man in my life for over 18 years. As Stetson said, “Goodnight”, my husband, Dave came onto the scene. Dave never had dogs growing up, but I have helped make up for lost time! Two years into our marriage, I told Dave I knew my life’s purpose was to rescue Pekingese, high maintenance miniature majestic dictators! With Dave’s support, I wrote down my vision to honor lost souls who had been given up on. My vision turned into a hair storm! I have had Pekingese in my life for over 35 years. We have rescued well over 300 animals in the last 10 years, namely hairy, flat-faced pooches. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree in education and have spent 3 years in a veterinary technology program. My full time career ladder has taken me through the ranks of public health, non-profit organizations, chairing at the university level and directing government branches and divisions, but my life, MY REAL LIFE, belongs to the Pekingese.

Dave

As the quiet half Liz E.’s Pekingese Rescue and Sanctuary, I grew up in a world where pets meant feeding the family Jack Dempsey fish aptly named, Jaws. Fur was not considered a condiment or an accessory in my formative years. Fortunately, God chose for me a person who had a love for barking, wiggling dust mops. Early in our marriage, I learned an important lesson in phonetic communication quickly understanding that 15 (one-five) was received as 50 (five-zero) when she asked me how many dogs we could help. I now live by the motto “What’s another twelve pounds.”  Lacking any real dog skills or ability, I contribute by picking up dogs from dire situations, taking dogs to meet their new parents, and picking up poop. I can say every moment of laughter, every happily ever after, and every grave filled with tears, the Pekingese have given me an education about a dog’s health, personality, hard times, and love. In my spare time, I enjoy watching sports and playing golf (defining spare time would be the bigger concept here). I have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a master’s degree in both mathematics and econometrics. I currently work full time for an academic health system and during the season, I am a tax specialist.  I lived thirty-five years without a dog in my life, but I have made up for lost time with the woman I love, whose vision for an uncommon rescue and sanctuary has made me the luckiest.
